A blue diamond as an investment, is it possible? Of course, you can ask a quotation to add a blue diamond to your investment portfolio. Blue is one of the rarest diamond colours and comes in different shades, from bright blue to grey blue, green blue and purple blue. The exceptional gemstones thank their colours to the presence of boron and nitrogen in the earth layers. This only appears in a few mines.

Looking at the offer, 2016 as well as 2017 was a less productive year. According to the Fancy Colour Research Foundation that’s why the price of the blue diamond increased with 4,7% in the third quarter.

What’s the difference with famous diamonds?

Famous diamonds are actually not a part of investment portfolios. It’s the highest category concerning rarity and value. These famous diamonds generally owe their fame to the fact that they were owned by a famous person or been on a classic painting. Examples include the Hope Diamond, Millennial Star and Koh-i-Noor.

The exceptional diamonds are often incomparable, unaffordable and unsellable, which makes them less interesting for an investment portfolio. They usually end up in an auction house where they go under the hammer for absurd record prices.
