2016 was a good year for diamond auctions at Christie's and Sotheby's. These ten legendary stones got a new owner for breathtaking prices.

1. Constellation: The Constellation diamond sold for $ 63 million in May. The stone weighs 813 carats and was found in Botswana in November 2015.

2. Oppenheimer: The Oppenheimer Blue Diamond was sold for $ 57.5 million at Christie's in Geneva in May. The 14.62 ct diamond was presented in a ring. The stone belonged to the collection of the famous London diamond dealer Sir Philip Oppenheimer, who controlled the diamond market internationally through the De Beers company. The stone was found in South Africa.

3. Unique Pink: this rare pink diamond was auctioned at Sotheby's in Geneva in May for $ 31.5 million. The 15.38 ct diamond is set in a ring and cut pear-shaped. This unique diamond shape and pink color make this diamond extremely rare.
